Lucknow, June 8: The Uttar Pradesh government has found itself in thick soup once again. On Sunday afternoon a local villager named Shrikanth Dixit died of starvation in Barabanki district, about 28 km east of the state capital, Lucknow. As a result of his death, the local clamoured against the negligence on part of the state government. Following his death on Sunday, media reports showed images of the Dixit which further fuelled the anger among people of the neighbouring villages. In the image, (as shown above) Dixit lay on the ground, bare-chested and emaciated. According to media reports, as the man died of starvation, all that his old mother, Kalyani Devi, could do was helplessly watch as his son finally stopped breathing. She tried to help him as much as she could. She fed him whatever she could. However, that couldn’t save Dixit from dying a horrible death. This pushed the local administration to launch a probe in the controversial death of 40-year-old man from Pakriha village. Government officials claim that as per the post-mortem report, there was 50 grams of food in this stomach at the time of death and therefore, Dixit could not have died due to starvation. This claim has further infuriated the masses. Even the politicians of the opposition parties have come together in an effort to use the death of this impoverished man to topple the government.
