Slamming the Congress leader for this, the BJP said in the tweet: “Shameful statement by Congress leader and former Central Minister Vilasrao Muttemwar. He says that the world knows past generations of Rahul Gandhi but no one knows who Modi’s father was!”

This comes days after Congress leader Raj Babbar compared the falling value of Indian rupee with the advanced age of PM Modi’s mother.

Reacting to his remarks, PM Modi lashed out the Congress and the Gandhi family, saying that the opposition party was dragging his mother’s name into the political slugfest as it did not have any real issue and could not fight him.

“After all, their weapons to target Modi have failed… they are now hurling abuses at Modi’s mother, who does not understand even R of ‘rajniti’,” the PM said at Chhattarpur in Madhya Pradesh.

On Friday, senior Congress leader C P Joshi, while a addressing a meeting in poll-bound Rajasthan, said that said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP MP Uma Bharti and Hindu activist Sadhvi Ritambhara are from “lower castes” and know nothing of Hinduism.

He later apologised for his casteist remarks after party chief Rahul Gandhi disapproved of his comments and asked him to express regret.
