New Delhi, April 2: Accusing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of blowing things out of proportion on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering issue and falsely accusing BJP for former’s defeat in Assembly Elections 2017 , Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinay Sahasrabuddhe on Saturday said that the EVMs don’t decide the elections result.
Vinay Sahasrabuddhe lashed out at the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP saying that the party is looking to cover-up its defeat by citing that the EVMs were tampered with. “The agenda behind questioning the authenticity of EVMs is for AAP to philosophize its defeat. They are looking for excuses right now to cover up for their defeat,” said Sahasrabuddhe.
BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi also echoed the words and stated that AAP is slowly losing all the support and hence it is trying to accuse BJP of tampering with the EVMs.
“The Congress and AAP work in coherence with each other. By questioning EVMs, it is clear that the party is under the fear of losing workers. It is strange how EVMs were not questioned when the two parties successfully established majorities in Punjab and Delhi respectively,” said Lekhi.
On Saturday, Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal met Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi to discuss the EVM tampering issue after a video on EVM trial went viral on social media. “We have been saying that the EVMs were tempered. Are the elections in this nation being conducted fairly? Are people casting their votes or machines itself deciding it?” Kejriwal said addressing media after the meeting. Kejriwal also alleged that the software in the machines was changed. He further added that when the voters press any button on the EVM, the VVPAT machine attached to it, which dispenses slips of the party bearing its symbol the voter has voted for, it only prints Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slips. he also said that machines have not been checked which raises a big question mark on democracy.
Yesterday, the Election Commission ordered a probe into the alleged EVM tampering issue after the Congress party complained that the VVPAT machine printed a BJP slip in a trial vote which was casted to the Samajwadi Party by pressing the party’s button ahead of the Ater bypolls in Madhya Pradesh. “We have sought a detailed report from district election officer and would come up with a response in the evening,” an EC spokesperson said.
Earlier also, after a poor show in Punjab and Goa Assembly Elections 2017, Arvind Kejriwal alleged foul play in the EVMs. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) submitted a letter to the Election Commission of India and complained about the alleged Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering in Punjab Assembly Elections 2017.
In the letter, AAP stated, “After analysis of booth wise voting pattern, we have reached to a conclusion that there has been large-scale rigging through tampering of EVMs. Initial analysis has shown that on several booths, where the Aam Aadmi Party has secured very less number vote, voters in much bigger number than the total number of votes secured by the Aam Aadmi Party have come forward saying they had voted for AAP.”
