Bengaluru: Former Union Minister V Dhananjay Kumar passed away in Mangaluru on Monday following a prolonged illness. He was 67.
Four months back, Dhananjay Kumar was reportedly admitted in a private hospital owing to his ill health. The mortal remains of the late minister will be placed at his house on March 5 at Kadri Kambala, stated a report.
Dhananjay Kumar began his political career as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1983. Subsequently, Kumar was elected as MLA and he later became the member of Parliament. Dhananjay Kumar soon joined Yeddyurappa’s Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) party when it was established. When Dhananjay was not permitted to join the BJP by the top party leaders, he defected to the Congress.
The late minister had earlier handled finance and textiles department of Karnataka. While serving as a cabinet minister during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s rule, Dhananjay Kumar had held the civil aviation and tourism portfolios.
