New Delhi, Dec 15: Results for year’s biggest political battle would be out on Monday, December 18 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is beaming with confidence as exit poll have predicted comprehensive victory for the party both in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
Soon after voting for the second and last phase of Gujarat Assembly elections concluded on Thursday, December 14, several news channels started airing exit poll data for Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The lotus would bloom in both the states, exit polls showed. Despite Rahul Gandhi’s whirlwind campaigning in Gujarat, the voters of the state appear to support BJP’s Gujarat Model of development again, they showed. What Various Polls Predicted
Exit poll conducted by News24-Today’s Chanakya gave BJP 135 seats in Gujarat and predicted just 47 for the Congress. It predicted 55 seats for the BJP and 13 for the Congress in Himachal Pradesh. Similary, the ABP-CSDS Lokniti exit poll gave the BJP a maximum of 117 seats and Congress 64 in Gujarat. The survey predicted 38 seats for the BJP and 29 for the Congress in Himachal Pradesh.
The India Today-Axis poll predicted 99-113 seats in the 182-seat Gujarat Assembly for the BJP and 68-82 seats for the Congress. The survey gave BJP 47-55 seats and the Congress 13-20 in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh assembly.
Today’s Chanakya Exit Poll For Gujarat
The Times Now-VMR exit poll predicted the BJP to win 113 and the Congress 66 in Gujarat. It also predicted tally of 51 seats for the BJP in Himachal Pradesh. The Times Now-VMR poll gave 16 seats to the Congress and a seat to other contenders.
Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: Full Coverage
According to India TV-VMR survey, the BJP is winning comprehensively both in Gujarat and Himachal. The saffron party is likely to clinch anywhere between 108 and 118 seats. The Congress could win 61 to 71 seats.
But Pollsters Have Gone Wrong in The Past
The BJP may be upbeat over exit poll results but it should also remember that election result surveys have gone horribly wrong in the past. Most of the exit polls had predicted the BJP-led NDA to win a huge majority in 2015 Assembly elections. However, the actual results were strikingly opposite of the predictions.

Today’s Chanakya, which had correctly called the 2014 Lok Sabha in favour of the BJP, had predicted 155 seats for the BJP in Bihar and 55 for Lalu Prasad’s RJD, which actually won 178 seats.
Assembly Elections Exit Poll 2017 Results
India Today-Cicero exit poll had predicted a close contest between the BJP and Mahagathbandhan of RJD, Congress and JD(U) giving them 120 and 117 seats respectively.
During the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections held in February/March this year, a few had predicted a neck-and-neck fight between the BJP and Congress-Samajwadi Party combine while some said the BJP may form the government in India’s most populous state. But none could forecast three-quarter majority of 325 seats that the BJP and its allies won.
