New Delhi, Jan 29: A Deputy Superintendent of Police was killed and his gunman injured when they tried to pacify a few protesting students in Punjab’s Faridkot on Monday. DSP Baljinder Singh Sandhu sustained bullet injuries as he tried to defuse tension at Regional Campus of the Punjabi University in Jaitu where students were protesting against the arrest of two students a couple of days ago.

Confirming the news of the death of a top cop, IGP, Bathinda Range MS Chhina said Sandhu and his gunmen were rushed to Faridkot Medical Hospital where the DSP died of his wounds. Sandhu’s gunman is battling for his life.

The incident has sent shockwaves amid the state administration and a probe has been ordered.

Meanwhile, a video has emerged which shows DSP Sandhu trying to pacify an enraged mob. Suddenly, a gun shot is heard following which the cop is seen collapsing on the ground bleeding.  Some media reports said that DSP Sandhu was shot by his own service revolver.
