Lucknow, September 12: In a rude shock to farmers of Uttar Pradesh, they got farm loan waiver ranging from Re 1 to Rs 18. While some got waiver of Re 1, some got Rs 1.80, Rs 1.50 and Rs 18, media reports said. The move came even as the Yogi Adityanath government announced to waiver on loans up to Rs 1 lakh.
In Etawah, loan of 9,527 farmers worth Rs 58,29,00,000 has been waived but those who received waiver of Re 1 to Rs 18 felt cheated, the NDTV reported.
In Hamirpur, loan waiver certificates of Rs 10 and Rs 215 were allegedly given at a function held with much fanfare and presided by state’s labour and employment exchanges minister Mannu Kori. Shanti Devi of Umri village got a loan waiver of just Rs 10.37 against a loan of Rs 1.55 lakh.
Munni Lal of Maudaha village was given a loan waiver certificate of Rs 215 against his loan of Rs 40,000, the Hindustan Times reported.
After the farmers raised voice against waiver, Kori termed it a printing error and said he would look into the matter. “The loan waivers have been given as per rules. If there are discrepancies, we will get it inquired into and act against those responsible,” Kori said.
Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Uttam hit out at the Yogi government over the move. He tweeted, “Rs 10 loan waiver certificate is a cruel joke on farmers.”
The Yogi Adityanath government had of July 11 presented its first Rs 3,84,659.71 crore budget for 2017-18, making a special provision of Rs 36,000 crore to honour its poll promise of farm loan waiver through debt redemption. The farm loan waiver was a major promise in the BJP’s election manifesto.
