Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti has been booked for domestic violence post his wife’s complaint. An FIR has been registered against Bharti post the domestic violence complaint by his wife. The case had come into light when the Delhi Commission of Women had summoned him after charges of harrasment by his wife Lipika Mitra. Although he had denied of any such case of harassment, as he has been living away from his wife for the past five year. He also stated that if need arise he will appear before the Commission. Although Bharti had denied all the allegations, his wife maintained in a written complaint that he had harassed her mentally as well as physically. Not only Bharti but also his party members had threatened her. Lipika who is a Malviya Nagar MLA and a lawyer did not verbally comment on the issue, but had claimed that she wanted the marriage between her and Bharti to end. Lipika Mitra also said that she had electronic and documentary proof of the abuse. Aam Aadmi Party had downplayed the issue of domestic violence and had said that it is a personal matter and the issue will be resolved within the family.
