New Delhi, Mar 22: Expressing her concern over the fire incident in the Parliament complex today, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has asked for a detailed report. “She has also ordered for complete checking of the existing wirings, fittings and equipment,” said a statement issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The fire took place in an AC Plant in plot no. 118 in Parliament House Complex and the fire was controlled “within some time”. No casualty was reported, the statement said, adding “the Speaker has asked for a detailed report”. It took 10 fire engines about 30 minutes to douse the flames, fire officials said. The two Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, went on a month-long break from last Friday. Earlier, the Home Ministry also sought report from Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police and CPWD and asked them to explain the reasons behind the fire. The Home Ministry told the three organisations and New Delhi Municipal Corporation to send respective report on an urgent basis, a Home Ministry official said. The organisations were told to inform the Home Ministry the reasons for fire, whether there was any lapse on their part and action taken to prevent such incident in future. A major fire broke out at the AC plant inside Parliament complex here today while welding work was underway gutting the unit, no one was injured.
