Koraput: Five Maoists have been killed in an encounter in Padua Forest area of Koraput District near Andhra Pradesh border, reported ANI on Wednesday.
Koraput SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said three of the deceased were women.
Local media reported that the encounter took place under the Padua Police Station limits near the Andhra Pradesh border. Police said rifles had been seized from the spot.
The incident reportedly took place during a combing operation launched by the DVF and SOG commandos. The deceased Maoists have not been identified yet.
Early in the morning, two Maoists, including a woman, were killed in an exchange of fire with the security forces near Dantewada and Sukma border.
The incident took place in the area that falls under the Aranpur police station. An INSAS and one 12 Bore rifle along with other ammunition were recovered from the spot of encounter.
