Before that, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain too was arrested over the murder. It was in his house that the IB staffer was reported to have been killed. Hussain, who was suspended by his party after his name cropped up, had been absconding for several days before he was finally arrested. Notably, Ankit Sharma was found dead in Chand Bagh, one of the areas of the capital which witnessed riots, on February 26. His body was retrieved from a drain. His postmortem report has revealed 51 injury marks on his body, of which 12 were knife-inflicted.
A total of 53 people, including Sharma, were killed in the violence, Delhi’s worst in nearly forty years. It began as a clash between pro- and anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters on February 23 but turned communal a day later and continued for a third day, i.e February 25 as well.
The situation was brought under control only after National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was pressed in action.
