Fodder Scam: Jharkhand HC Grants Regular Bail to ex-CM Jagannath Mishra

Ranchi, Jul 20: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted regular bail to chief minister of undivided Bihar Jagannath Mishra, who was on provisional bail in three cases of the multi-crore fodder scam. Mishra’s counsel Indrajit Sinha submitted before the court of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh that his client, who has been convicted in three fodder scam cases, is on provision bail from February 16, 2018.

He pleaded for regular bail as Mishra is suffering from cancer and is undergoing regular chemotherapy and other treatments at a Gurgaon hospital.

The CBI counsel Rajiv Sinha also acknowledged that Mishra is being treated at a Gurgaon hospital. After hearing all parties, the court ordered regularisation of Mishra’s provisional bail.

Born in 1937, Mishra served as chief minister of undivided Bihar from Congress party thrice – 1975-77, 1980-83 and 1989-90. He also served as Union minister for agriculture, rural areas and employment during the period 1995-96.

Mishra has been named as a co-accused in four cases of fodder scam along with RJD president Lalu Prasad. He has been discharged in one case related to fraudulent withdrawal of government money from Chaibasa treasury, but convicted in rest three cases linked with illegal money withdrawal from Chaibasa, Deogarh and Dumka treasuries in the 90s.
