Ranchi, Jan 4: The Ranchi Special CBI court will pronounce the quantum of sentence against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and others in connection with the fodder scam tomorrow, i.e., January 5. The court deferred the sentencing in the case till Friday. The court had earlier deferred the fodder scam sentencing till Thursday, January 4, in wake of the demise of advocate Vindeshwari Parsad. While deferring the sentence, the Ranchi special court found RJD leaders Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Tejashwi Yadav and Manoj Jha guilty of contempt of court and summoned them on January 23. On December 23, the special CBI court convicted the RJD chief and 14 others in the Deoghar Treasury case of the fodder scam. In the same case, former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra and six others were acquitted by the court. After being convicted in the fodder scam case, Lalu Prasad said that he would challenge the verdict in the high court and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of playing dirty politics. “To hide its failures, false rhetoric and to get votes, the BJP uses every dirty immoral trick in politics to change the public perception of its opponents,” Lalu said in a series of tweets.

Manoj Jha also accused “other political forces determined to bring down the legacy of Lalu Prasad Yadav”. “Kind of evidence we have, we’ll get redressal at a higher court. Politically I know this regime, they have this typical Standard Operating Procedure-Try to make a deal with your opposition, if you fail…scare them. Want to tell them-Your end has begun,” Jha added.

The fodder scam pertains to the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 84.5 lakh from the Deoghar treasury between the years 1994 and 1996 when the RJD chief was the Bihar chief minister. Overall, the fodder scam is the fraudulent withdrawal of more than Rs 900 crore from the Chaibasa treasury for nearly 20 years.
