According to reports, an invitation has also been sent to another senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. The Congress, notably, has been on an offensive against the government, asking who is spending Rs 100 crore to organise the ‘Namaste Trump’ programme in Ahmedabad.
The development also comes after it was revealed earlier in the day that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia will not accompany US First Lady Melania Trump during her visit to a school in the national capital, triggering a major controversy.
According to the official itinerary, Trump will land directly in Ahmedabad from the US and, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inaugurate the 1,10,000-seater Motera Stadium which will become the largest cricket stadium in the world and the second-largest stadium anywhere.
From there, the Trumps will leave for Agra the same day to visit the Taj Mahal and arrive in the national capital at night and attend a dinner organised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their honour.
