New Delhi: An Odisha-cadre IAS officer, Aparajita Sarangi, who recently took voluntary retirement joined ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party president Amit Shah at the party headquarters in the national capital.
Many senior leaders including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha BJP unit president Basant Panda and State in-charge Arun Singh were also present at the BJP HQ. The 1994 batch IAS officer was on central deputation since 2013 and served as joint secretary (MGNREGA), Ministry of Rural Development.
Sarangi’s application under Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) had been accepted by the Odisha Government on November 14 after being submitted on September 15. She had completed her tenure as Joint Secretary of MGNREGA under Ministry of Rural Development in August this year.
During her stint in Odisha, the former IAS officer had become a popular face as the Secretary of School & Mass Education Department and Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
