New Delhi, July 2: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has termed the speculation about PDP and INC alliance as fake news. She took to micro-blogging site Twitter and said, “Amused at media speculations about a possible PDP-INC alliance to form the government in J&K. Conjecture also includes an impending meeting between Sonia ji & I. This is utter fabrication & yet another unfortunate example of #FakeNews!”
The tweet comes hours after Congress’ core group on Jammu and Kashmir met today to discuss the political situation in the state. The meeting was held at the residence of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who heads the group.
The group includes senior Congress leaders Karan Singh, P Chidambaram, Congress general secretary in charge of the state Ambika Soni and Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir. (ALSO READ: PDP Leader Imran Ansari Blames Mehbooba Mufti For Split With BJP)
The Congress is in a wait and watch mode in the state, which is under Governor’s Rule after the BJP pulled out of its alliance with the PDP. There are reports of the National Conference and the PDP approaching the Congress for government formation in the state.
However, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has ruled out that the party will form a government with the PDP.
The political circles in the Kashmir Valley were set abuzz after former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti arrived here on Friday night.
The PDP has 28 seats and the Congress has 12 in the 87-member state Assembly. A simple majority of 44 seats is required to form the government and some PDP members have been trying to seek the support of the CPI(M) and independent members.
The BJP had pulled out of the alliance government last month, forcing Mehbooba Mufti resign as the chief minister.
