New Delhi: Former Union Minister and Congress leader Buta Singh passed away on Saturday, news agency ANI reported. He was 86.
Expressing grief over the leader’s demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Singh was an “effective voice for the welfare of the poor as well as downtrodden”.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the nation has lost a true public crusader and dedicated leader.
Singh was first elected to the Indian Parliament from the Sadhna constituency. He was associated with the Congress party since Jawaharlal Nehru was Prime Minister. He was considered close to former Indian Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
