New Delhi: In a tragic incident, four children were charred to death after a school bus with 12 students on board caught fire at Longowal town in Sangrur district in Punjab on Saturday. Fortunately, people working in nearby fields safely evacuated eight children.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known. The deceased children were returning home from school. They were said to be in the age group of 10-12. Meanwhile, a police team has been rushed to the accident spot.

Expressing grief over the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh assured that those guilty will be “strictly punished”.

“Very sad to learn of the news from Sangrur, where we lost 4 children because their school van caught fire. Injured have been rushed to the hospital. DC & SSP Sangrur are on the spot & I have ordered a magisterial enquiry. Guilty will be strictly punished”, tweeted Singh.
