Pune, Sept 10: The protesting students at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) pitched up their agitation on Thursday against the Union government. 3 members of the FTII students’ association began their indefinite hunger strike in Pune, demanding the resignation of Gajendra Chauhan and reconstituting the governing council.
In the past week, the protesters threatened to begin an indefinite fast if the Centre continues to ignore their concerns. The students are firm on the removal of Chauhan, citing his below the par knowledge of cinema to head the premier institute. The protest initiated by the students, backed by FTII alumnus and a major section of the film fraternity has crossed the 100-day mark. Both the government and students have shown no sign of relent. The agitators have alleged the BJP government at the Centre of imposing its ideology on the creative institute by appointing members in the governing council who are affiliated to right-wing groups.
