Messi Kolkata Tour Sparks Political Row In West Bengal

The massive mismanagement at the Salt Lake Stadium sparked a political row in Kolkata. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar directly targeted West Bengal government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He alleged that Messi’s event was hijacked by TMC leaders as organisers and people surrounding the star footballer were linked to the ruling party.

“This is the mismanagement of the West Bengal government… The organizers were people from TMC itself, and now TMC is trying to show that they are separate, but they are not both are the same. TMC leaders were present there, and they tried to hijack this event. Whoever was around Messi, all of them were TMC people,” ANI quoted Majumdar as saying.

WB CM Mamata Banerjee tendered an apology to Messi and his angered fans.

“I sincerely apologise to Lionel Messi, as well as to all sports lovers and his fans, for the unfortunate incident,” her post on X read.
