New Delhi, Feb 21: There is furore over two US-based online retailers for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. The US-based retailers lostcoast.com and yeswevibe.com have products like a beer with Lord Ganesha’s image and shoes with the Om symbol on them. An FIR has also been files against the two retail websites.
Bharat Scouts and Guides commissioner Naresh Kadyan has lodged two complaints against the website yeswevibe.com for selling shoes with the Om symbol and another against lostcoast.com for using Lord Ganesha’s image on beer bottles. Kadyan has written a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to register an FIR against the websites and asked them ensure that the products are removed from sale.
He has also filed a complaint at Delhi’s Prashant Vihar police station, stating that the symbol Om is affiliated with religious feelings and beliefs of Hindu communities across the globe.
“An FIR has been filed. We aim to stop the sale of these products in India and the US if possible,” said Naresh Kadyan.
His complaint says, “Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs, violated the different sections of the laws of land, including 295 A and 153 A of the IPC.”
A similar furore was seen in June last year when online marketplace Amazon faced ire for selling door mats with Hindu gods printed on them. Matters got worse after Islamic themed doormats were also spotted online. The Ministry of External Affairs had also intervened in the issue issuing a strong warning to AMazon over the sale of such products. Following the furore, Amazon had to remove the products from their site.
