New Delhi: In yet another setback for rape-accused Samajwadi Party leader Gayatri Prajapati, the police on Tuesday arrested two of his aides from Noida. As per the reports of leading national channel India Today, the Special Task Force (STF) arrested Prajapati’s aides Ashok Tiwari and Ashish Shukla from Noida. They are being brought to Lucknow.
Yesterday, police had arrested his gunner Chandrapal Singh. “Chandrapal (Prajapati’s PSO) was arrested near Police Lines here,” Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Shivram Yadav told PTI.“We are interrogating Chandrapal and trying to extract information and whereabouts about rest of the minister’s accomplices. The police is also conducting raids at locations revealed by the arrested gunner,” he had said.
ADG (Law and Order) Daljit Chaudhary said efforts have been intensified to track down the minister against whom a non-bailable warrant has been issued. “UP Police Special Task Force has been roped in to trace the elusive minister,” he said.
The Supreme Court on Monday also rejected the plea filed by Gayatri Prajapati requesting interim relief in the matter. The SP leader who is absconding in the rape case – had approached the Supreme Court seeking protection from the arrest and recall of its earlier order. The issue of a tainted leader occupying a cabinet berth has roared in the campaigning for Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too accused Samajwadi Party of chanting “Gayatri Prajapati mantra” for success in assembly elections.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik also reportedly wrote a letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav seeking his clarification on the continuation of Gayatri Prajapati as a cabinet minister in the government. Samajwadi Party has fielded Gayatri Prajapati to contest the Amethi seat in assembly elections.
