New Delhi, Mar 14: Goa information and publicty department on Wednesday said that chief minister Manohar Parrikar is responding to the treatment in the United States. Parrikar has gone to US for further treatment of a pancreatic ailment .

Parrikar, 62, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on February 15 and discharged on February 22. On the same day he returned to Goa and presented the Budget in the assembly, but the session was truncated to only four days owing to his illness.  He was later admitted to Goa Medical college and Hospital after he suffered from dehydration.

In 2017 election, the BJP lost the Goa Assembly polls with 13 seats to the Congress’ 17 in the 40-seat Assembly. But governor in a controversial breach of convention invited BJP for forming the government. Currently, the BJP has 14 MLAs in the Assembly, and the Congress 16. The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Goa Forward Party have three MLAs each, and there are three Independents and one Nationalist Congress Party MLA.
