As per the police, the woman had missed her train from Canacona to Thivim station, following which she decided to return to the place she was staying. While she was walking towards the Palolem beach, the accused spotted her and dragged her into a paddy field on the roadside near a telecom company’s office.

“He first hit her in the eyes, due to which her vision blurred for a few minutes, and then raped her,” the police official said quoting the complaint. The accused later fled while taking away three bags of the woman, he said.

A search was on for the culprit, he said, adding that some suspects from the area were being rounded up.

Canacona taluka in South Goa is a tourism hub with popular beaches like Agonda and Palolem. The woman had been regularly visiting Goa for the last 10 years.

Earlier in November, last year, a 20-year-old foreign national was allegedly raped by a bank manager in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to ANI, the victim, who is from Russia, said, “He raped me and was in a relationship with several other women. I met him in Vrindavan.”

However, refuting the victim’s claims, the accused said, “There was no contact between us for a year. She was asking me for money. When I refused, she filed this case against me.”
