Chandigarh, Oct 24: A day after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar termed the death of 15-year-old Dalit boy in Gohana as a case of suicide, the Haryana government ordered a probe under the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The decision was taken under pressure from the Dalits in the region who had promised to launch a state-wide agitation if the mysterious death of the minor is not probed.

The decision to form an SIT was taken after the two policemen were detained in the case. According to the victim’s family, “Police took the boy to the police station on the complaint of theft and later demanded Rs 15,000 to release him. When we went to the police station with money, they told us that our child has been released.” (Read: Another dalit killed in Haryana, cops booked)

The deceased, identified as Govind was found dead outside his house on Thursday, a day after he was arrested.

The complaint against Govind was made by members of ‘Gadia Lohar’ community staying in his locality, who alleged the victim of stealing their pigeons. Although, the post-mortem report claims that the child died of hanging, his kin expect foul play and accuse the police of beating him to death or abetting him to commit suicide.
