Delhi-Mumbai Expressway update: In a matter of good news for the residents of Rajasthan’s Kota or the students who need to travel between New Delhi and Kota on regular intervals, the National Highway Authority of India is expected to open the Kota-Delhi stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway after Diwali this year. As per media reports, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway which was launched in 2019 and initially planned for completion in 2023, has now been delayed until 2026. Here are all the details you need to know about the Kota stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
What’s the update on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway?
“Work on Package 10, a 26.5 km stretch, is currently underway, with 95 per cent completed. Only finishing touches remain. We are making every effort to complete this section on time,” an NHAI official was quoted as saying in a report by Times of India.
The direct link to Mumbai is expected next year, with further delays caused by a 4.9-km tunnel construction in Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve, set to begin after February 2026. Nearly 95% of the 26.5-km Package 10 stretch is complete. Currently, commuters face congestion due to a 60-km detour between Kota and Sawai Madhopur. Relocation of a 765-kV power line and heavy rainfall also contributed to delays. Authorities will open four of the eight lanes after a safety audit.
