Google Doodle for August 15: Search Giant Commemorates India's Independence Day With Architecture-Themed Tribute

New Delhi: India is celebrating its 78th year of Independence today, and Google has marked the significant day with a special Doodle created by illustrator Vrinda Zaveri. The Doodle, inspired by architecture, features traditional doors and windows adorned in the tricolors of the Indian flag. In the digital artwork, the letters ‘G’, ‘O’, ‘O’, ‘G’, ‘L’ and ‘E’ of the company’s name are depicted on each door carrying a distinct ornate design.

“The people of India strongly desired self-governance and sovereignty after nearly two centuries of inequality, violence, and lack of fundamental rights. Led by prominent figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhas Chandra Bose, the Indian independence movement was made possible through civil disobedience. The perseverance and sacrifices of the country’s freedom fighters paid off,” reads a statement on Google’s Doodle website.

On this day in 1947, India gained its freedom from colonial rule. In a post on the Google Doodle portal, the search giant wrote,”On Independence Day, many attend flag-raising ceremonies, parades, musical performances, and community rallies to celebrate.”

On Independence Day, many people participate in flag-raising ceremonies, parades, musical performances, and community rallies to celebrate. Homes, buildings, streets, and cars are adorned with the saffron, white, and green of the national flag, as depicted in today’s artwork.

India celebrates 78th Independence Day; PM Modi to hoist national flag at Red Fort

Preparations are underway at the Red Fort in the national capital, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and deliver his 11th consecutive speech to the nation from the ramparts of the historic monument. The Indian flag holds magnanimous significance, for it represents the diversity the country holds.

The flag, in its present form, was adopted during a meeting of the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947, just twenty days before India’s independence. On August 15, 1947, it became the official flag of the country.

The spinning wheel was replaced by the Dharma Chakra of Emperor Ashoka, symbolising truth and life. This came to be called the Tiranga. The three colours–saffron, white, and green–have no communal meaning. The three colours are spread in equal ratios. As per the flag code of India, the flag has a width: height aspect ratio of 3:2.

India.com wishes its readers a Happy Independence Day! May the spirit of freedom and unity fill our hearts as we celebrate the pride of our nation. As we celebrate our independence, may we always strive to uphold the values of freedom, equality, and justice. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!
