Lucknow, March 8: In a bid to attract voters, lookalike of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah were campaigning in the saffron party ahead of bypoll to the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat. No political party is leaving any stone unturned to garner support for their candidates. Today is the last day of campaigning for the Gorakhpur seat which goes to poll on March 11.
The bypoll was necessitated after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath vacated the Gorakhpur seat, following his election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. The seat is significant for the BJP as it is the bastion of the chief minister, who has represented the seat in the Lok Sabha five times. Prior to Adityanath, the seat was thrice represented in Parliament by his mentor Yogi Avaidyanath.
The seat is witnessing a triangular contest. The saffron party has fielded Upendra Dutt Shukla from Gorakhpur against Samajwadi Party’s Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel Congress’s Sureetha Kareem from Gorakhpur.
There are ten candidates in the fray from Gorakhpur.
Due to change in the political equation, the BJP is facing a new challenge this time as the SP contestants have the backing of Bahujan Samaj Party.
