Gorakhpur Lok Sabha Bypoll 2018: Virat Kohli is a Voter Here, Dead Election Officers Named in Duty Chart

A voter slip has the name and photo of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. His name is registered as a voter at booth number 153 in Luchui.

Gorakhpur, Mar 9: Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team, features in the voter list of Gorakhpur, where Lok Sabha bypoll is scheduled to he held on March 11. The discrepancy is not limited till here as election officers, who are no more, have also been deployed on election duty. Counting of votes for Gorakhpur Lok Sabha bypoll  will be held on March 14. As per reports, two engineers – Rakesh Kumar and Anil Kumar – who died a year ago have been deployed on Gorakhpur bye-election 2018 duty. On the other hand, a voter slip has the name and photo of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. His name is registered as a voter at booth number 153 in Luchui.

A report in News18 Hindi quotes District Magistrate Pankaj Shrivastav as confirming that a probe in the matter has been launched. He also assured of strict action against those found at fault.

Gorakhpur bypolls were announced after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath vacated the seat by resigning as Lok Sabha member in September last year following his election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. On March 11, Phulpur Lok Sabha seat will also go to polls. It was vacated by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minster Keshav Prasad Maurya.

The BJP has fielded Upendra Dutt Shukla from Gorakhpur against the SP’s Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel. Sureetha Kareem is the Congress candidate from the seat. According to Election Commission, there are 19.49 lakh voters in Gorakhpur parliamentary constituency.
