Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has reportedly asked the party workers to start door-to-door campaign for Samajwadi Party (SP) candidates in Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh where bypolls are scheduled to be held on March 11.

A report in News18 quotes Ashok Gautam, BSP’s zonal coordinator for Allahabad as saying that the party workers are taking behenji’s message to the voters and the BJP candidate will lose this election.
Gorakhpur bypolls were announced after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath vacated the seat by resigning as Lok Sabha member in September last year following his election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. On March 11, Phulpur Lok Sabha seat will also go to polls. It was vacated by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minster Keshav Prasad Maurya.
The BJP has fielded Upendra Dutt Shukla from Gorakhpur against the SP’s Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel and Congress’s Sureetha Kareem. In Phulpur, the saffron party has fielded Kaushalendra Singh Patel against SP’s Pravin Nishad and Congress’s Manish Mishra. A total of 10 candidates are in the fray from Gorakhpur, while 22 candidates are contesting from Phulpur.

According to Election Commission, there are 19.49 lakh voters in Gorakhpur parliamentary constituency and 19.61 lakh voters in Phulpur.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Yogi Adityanath got 51.8% of the vote in Gorakhpur while the SP candidate could manage 21.7% and the BSP candidate got 16.9%. On the other hand, in Phulpur, Keshav Prasad Maurya got 52.4% votes whereas, SP got 20.3% and BSP 17%.
The counting of votes for Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha Bye-elections 2018 will be conducted on March 14.
