Srinagar, Jun 8: The government on Friday made a slew of announcements for citizens and migrants living in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the compensation given for loss of livestock in border areas has been increased from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 per cattle. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also sanctioned two new women battalions for the state police, the home minister said.
“The MHA has sanctioned two new women battalions for Jammu and Kashmir police. One battalion will be for Kashmir division and one battalion for Jammu division. This will provide direct employment to nearly 2000 women of the state,” Rajnath Singh said. The home minister also said the compensation for persons killed in cross-border firing will be directly credited to the account of next of kin.
“The MHA has revisited scheme of giving Rs 5 lakhs for persons killed during cross-border firing and ceasefire violations. Now, this amount of Rs 5 Lakhs will be directly credited to the account of next of kin and all conditions relating to fixed deposit have been removed,” Singh said. “The relief given to Kashmiri and Jammu migrants have been increased to Rs 13000 per family per month,” the minister added.
On Pune police intercepting an internal communication of Maoists planning a ‘Rajiv Gandhi type’ assassination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh said, the government is constantly concerned about PM Modi’s security and Maoists are fighting a lost battle.
