New Delhi, July 18: The number of bodies recovered from the debris of the building collapse in Greater Noida’s Shah Beri village had risen to eight till the last reports came in on Wednesday. Early reports had suggested that 12 labourers were in the building at the time of the accident and they all were feared trapped. The state government acted fast and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of those dead and Rs 50,000 each to the injured, as announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Yogi has also given directions for a probe in the number of illegal constructions in the area. An FIR has been lodged against 18 people in all. As many as four National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams and dog squad were deployed to help with the rescue operation which was still underway at the time of filing this report. NDRF officials said the rescue work could go on till Thursday evening. The heavy slabs of concrete, narrow lanes and crowd in the area were hampering the work.  Noida District Magistrate BN Singh said, “Four people (the builder and his associates) have been arrested. An investigation is underway and both criminal and administrative aspects will be investigated. Reacting to the tragedy, Noida MLA Pankaj Singh said, “It’s unfortunate. Illegal construction should be stopped and strict action should be taken against those responsible. Echoing Singh’s words, a local, S Dubey, was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “We had approached the local administration but no action was taken. We met MLA Tejpal Nagar who wrote to them to take action yet nothing was done. We had also met the DM and the SSP but to no avail. All the construction here is illegal; neither the builder nor the government or the authorities have done anything about it.”
