Greater Noida, July 30: A man was brutally thrashed by an agitated mob after nine buffalo calves were found dead in his truck. Two transporters, who had been accompanying the victim, fled as soon as a vigilante group stopped the truck while one of them, Aslam, was nabbed and was beaten up. Some of the locals told the police that the truck was going to Kasna when a group of men noticed how the buffaloes were stuffed in the truck. They stopped the truck at Honda Chowk and thrashed one of the transporters they got hold of. They also damaged the truck and set its tyres on fire. “Some buffaloes had fallen due to suffocation as there was no space to breathe in the vehicle. We offloaded the animals and found nine of them dead. A fire tender was called to sprinkle water on the animals upon which they responded,” Kasna police station SHO Aazad Singh Tomar told Times of India. The truck has been seized and the transporter is being questioned. On being questioned, Aslam told the police that he was merely transporting the buffaloes. Local people, however, claimed that he was taking them to a slaughterhouse.
The incident has come weeks after a man was lynched to death by an agitated mob who had caught him with two cows in Alwar, Rajasthan. Rakbar Khan, who was beaten up, later died in the police custody.
