Pune: An object resembling a grenade was Tuesday found in the Air Force School in Viman Nagar in Pune on Tuesday. After police received a call from school authorities at around 10:30 AM, IAF security team reached the spot and cordoned off the area.
The object was identified by bomb disposal team from civil police as a pyrotechnic object. The suspicious device was safely disposed by the civil bomb disposal squad. There has been no damage to personnel and property.
The officials are probing what the object was and how it reached the school, which is located next to the Indian Air Force (IAF) base and the International Airport in Lohegaon.
“It was a call of around 10.30 am when some students spotted the object. The BDDS team was called to the spot and the object has been defused. Prima facie though the outer structure is like that of a hand grenade, the materiel in looks like the one used in firecrackers. For further confirmation, the materiel has been sent for chemical analysis. Our probe in on,” Indian Express quoted a senior officer from Pune city police as saying.
