New Delhi, Dec 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi left no stone unturned to woo voters on the last day of campaigning for the second phase of Gujarat Assembly elections 2017. While Gandhi predicted a ‘zabardast‘ victory for his party on next Monday, PM Modi took to Twitter and urged people of Gujarat to give a ‘fitting reply to the negativity and lies of the Opposition.’
“It is for the first time in an election that Modiji has not spoken about corruption, about farmers. There is (zabardast) tremendous undercurrent (against the BJP). Be it Patidars, OBCs, Dalits, farmers, all are angry. The public mood has undergone ‘zabardast‘ change. The Congress will win the electio, the results will be ‘zabardast‘,” a confident-looking Gandhi said today while addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi urged people ‘to vote for the BJP in record numbers’. “I urge my sisters and brothers of Gujarat to vote in record numbers on the 14th. I call upon the people of Gujarat to not only give the BJP an overwhelming majority but also ensure that BJP wins in every polling booth across the state,” Modi tweeted as the campaign for the second phase of Gujarat Assembly elections 2017 concluded.
Making an emotional appeal, the Prime Minister said, “The lies that our worthy opponents have spread, about Gujarat, Gujarat’s growth and about me personally is something I had never imagined. It is natural for every Gujarati to feel hurt. People of Gujarat will give a fitting reply to the negativity and lies of the Opposition.”
Modi also asserted that the victory of BJP is a guarantee for a bright future. In a series of tweets, PM stated that he is ‘devoting his life to the betterment of the people of Gujarat and India’. “I am devoting my life for the betterment of crores of people of Gujarat and India. Have been fortunate to always get your blessings. I am sure you will continue to bless us in these elections too by voting for BJP,” PM said on Twitter.
Meanwhile, the Congress president-elect while addressing his first presser after getting elected as chief of grand old party said,”I have made my stand clear from day one, in words and in action. Modiji is the prime minister of our country. Mani Shankar Aiyar said something and I made it clear that I would not tolerate it. You have seen the action. But what Modiji has said about former prime minister Manmohan Singh is not acceptable. Manmohan Singhji was also the prime minister of this country, served and made sacrifices for this country.”
During the last day of the campaigning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled from Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad to Dharoi Dam via sea plane whereas the Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi visited Jagannath Temple at Ahmedabad to offer his prayers.
