New Delhi, Dec 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on arch-rival Congress for adopting an election process “rigged” in favour of Rahul Gandhi for Party President. Addressing a rally in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, PM Modi said the party has a track record of not adhering to decisions taken within its bodies. He added former prime minister Morarji Desai was denied the chance to lead the country even if the party members voted in his favour.

PM Modi added that Congress has rigged its elections for the elevation of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi to the presidential post. He was referring to the recent allegations made by Maharashtra Congress Secretary Shehzad Poonawalla when he alleged the delegates for the elections were not chosen as per the Congress’ Constitution.

“A youngster Shehzad has exposed the rigging that is taking place in the Congress president poll. And Shehzad is a senior Congress leader in Maharashtra. The Congress Party has tried to muzzle his voice and wants to even remove him from their social media groups. What tolerance is this!,” ANI quoted PM Modi as saying.

“Those who have no internal democracy can’t work for people. I want to say to this youngster Shehzad – ‘you have done a brave thing but this is sadly what has always happened in Congress’,” he said.

Citing examples from period of emergency, PM Modi said Congress insulted institutions like Election Commission and the media. He alleged that the party censored the media by asking editors for the copies of newspapers before printing. He added the grand old party did not allow the All India Radio to play songs of Kishore Kumar. Kumar had opposed the imposition of emergency.
