Gandhinagar, Oct 21: As the Gujarat election is gaining grip with the Anti-BJP mood post-GST and version 2.0 of Rahul Gandhi, OBC Ekta Manch leader Alpesh Thakor has given his support to the Congress party saying he is ready to join the grand old outfit on October 23. Speaking to ANI, he said, “Rahul Gandhi would be coming to our rally on Oct 23 and I will join the Congress party.” In other reports, Patidar leaders Reshma Patel and Varun Patel have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Thakor, who gained fame after the Gujarat Patidar agitation in 2015, met the Congress vice president at his residence in the national capital on Saturday. He was accompanied by Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot and Bharat Singh Solanki (Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee chief), reported Times of India.

Thakor, the son of Congress leaders raised issues like unemployment, woes of fixed pay workers etc. Earlier this year, there were reports that Thakor might launch his own political outfit to contest the upcoming Gujarat polls.

Gujarat election is a trilateral contest between ruling BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). From 1995, the saffron party did not allow the Congress to cement itself at the helm but this time, the grand old party is looking to turn the tables around with Rahul  Gandhi leading from the front.

Gujarat Election Latest Updates:

There are a total of 182 Assembly seats in Gujarat. The election schedule is yet to be announced.

AAP on Saturday declared its first list of candidates for eleven Assembly constituencies in Gujarat including Rajkot (West).

Patidar leader Hardik Patel left Congress in a dilemma by saying Gujarat election is not a fight between two parties (BJP-Congress) but an election of 6 crore people of Gujarat. Congress had apparently asked Patel to join his outfit if he wants to contest the polls.
