Ahmedabad, Dec 14: Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah on Thursday cast his vote during polling for the second phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017. Shah cast his vote in Naranpura in Gujarat. Voting for the final phase of Gujarat elections was underway across 14 districts. Besides Shah, PM Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben, Hardik Patel’s parents and former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel also cast their votes. (Get Live updates on phase 2 voting here)
Patidar leader Hardik Patel’s parents Bharat and Usha Patel cast their votes in Viramgam. The two were seen offering prayers at a temple before they reached the polling booth to cast their votes. On the other hand, PM Modi’s mother Heeraben was seen casting her vote in Gandhinagar.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley cast his vote in Ahmedabad’s Vejalpur. “I appeal to the people of Gujarat to carry the vikas agenda forward and come to vote in large numbers,” Jaitley said after casting his vote.
Former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel cast her vote in Ahmedabad’s Ghatlodia, where BJP’s Bhupendra Patel is up against Congress’s Shashikant Patel. Meanwhile, Modi will also be casting his vote in the second phase of Gujarat polls today.
A total of 851 candidates are in the fray for 93 seats in the final phase of the Gujarat polls, where 2.22 crore people are eligible to exercise their franchise. The outcome of the second phase of Gujarat polls will determine the influence of Patidar leader Hardik Patel, OBC leader Alpesh Thakore and Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani in the Congress’s performance.
