A total of 851 candidates are in the fray for 93 seats in the final phase of the Gujarat polls, where 2.22 crore people are eligible to exercise their franchise. The outcome of the second phase of Gujarat polls will determine the influence of Patidar leader Hardik Patel, OBC leader Alpesh Thakore and Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani in the Congress’s performance.
This is for the first time in 15 years that the BJP is contesting Assembly elections in Gujarat without Narendra Modi being the CM face.
A host of VVIPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, will cast their votes. Prominent candidates in the fray include Gujarat deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, who is contesting from Mehsana against Jivabhai Patel of Congress. Alpesh Thakor, who joined the Congress, is seeking election from Radhanpur constituency. BJP fielded Lavingji Thakor against him.
The campaigning for the second phase concluded on Tuesday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a seaplane ride from the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad to Dharoi Dam in north Gujarat, and returned after offering prayers at the famous Ambaji Temple. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference and said that there was “tremendous undercurrent” against the ruling BJP in Gujarat and predicted a victory for the Congress party in the Assembly polls in the state.
In the 2012 assembly polls, the BJP had won 115 seats, while the Congress bagged 61. The counting of votes will be taken up on December 18.

I don’t see any code of conduct being violated because the Prime Minister didn’t campaign for his party, he did not utter a single word but only showed his finger with an ink mark which can be interpreted as to send a message to people vote and not who to vote for: S Kashyap,Constitution expert
