New Delhi, Dec 13: A day ahead of the second and final phase voting for Gujarat Assembly elections 2017, Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday came out all guns blazing against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Rahul Gandhi said PM Modi tried his best to divert attention from real issues people of Gujarat are facing but won’t succeed.

Rahul Gandhi, who is set to take charge of the Congress on December 16, said PM Modi only talked about Congress and himself in his election speeches while sidelining concerns of farmers and people of the state. “We had thought that the BJP will defend itself, give Gujarat a vision of its own but it did not. “People of Gujarat will vote on the basis of truth. The whole of Gujarat can see the reality of notebandi (demonetidsation) Gabbar Singh Tax. PM Modi tried to divert attention of people, he didn’t even talk about vikas (development) but it will not work this time,” Rahul Gandhi told Zee Media. “People within the BJP too have started accepting that this time it will difficult for them,” he added. “The love and affection Gujarat gave me in these three-four months has won my heart. I am at the sevice of Gujarat,” Rahul said.
Taking a dig at PM Modi’s monthly radio programme, the 47-year-old year Congress leader stressed that his party will work on the basis of feedback received from the people of Gujarat during. “Gujarat ka vision Gujarat bnaega, Gujarat ki janta ki baat sunke Congress ka vision banega. Hum apne mann ki baat nahi Gujarat ke mann ki baat karengey. (People of Gujarat would prepare the vision for their state. We won’t force out ‘mann ki baat’ on people but will listen to theirs),” Rahul Gandhi said. Rahul Gandhi also slammed PM Modi and the BJP for making personal attacks during election campaign and added that the national discourse at present is negative. “They made personal attacks. We took action against Mani Shankar Aiyar. But Modiji spoke about Manmohan Singh, it is not acceptable. Manmohan Singhji has served the country for so many years. He headed the government for 10 years but despite that, Modiji made such allegations against him. I want to change this negative discourse,” he said.
