New Delhi, Dec 19: Soon after BJP managed to retain power in Gujarat, senior party leader and Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi courted controversy, saying Congress vitiated the electoral atmosphere after playing caste politics by invoking ‘HAJ’ (Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakore and Jignesh Mevani) which was defeated by BJP’s ‘RAM’ (Rupani, Amit Shah and Narendra Modi).

Alluding to Congress’ newly appointed President Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, Sushil Modi stated that BJP’s victory in Gujarat and Himachal Assembly elections is a big slap on those who mocked demonetisation and GST by terming the Bill as ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’. “It was not an easy thing to register sixth victory in a row in Gujarat especially when the party was in power for past 22 years and amid Patidar movement and negative campaigns run by opposition against GST and demonetisation”, Bihar Deputy CM, who also holds finance porfolio, said.
Accompanied by Bihar ministers Mangal Pandey, Nand Kishore Yadav and Prem Kumar Sushil Modi expressed his gratitude towards people of the two states for their verdict and also congratulated the PM and party President Amit Shah over the win.
BJP on Monday got 99 seats while the Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, bagged second position with 77 seats, 16 more than what it bagged in 2012 Gujarat Assembly elections. Congress’ ally Bhartiya Tribal Party won two seats and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) one. Three seats went to independent candidates.
