New Delhi, October 23: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday said Gujarat is priceless and it can never be bought. Gandhi’s statement comes in the wake of recent allegations by Patidar leader Narendra Patel who alleged he was offered Rs 1 crore to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In a tweet, Gandhi said, “Gujarat is priceless. It has never been bought. It can never be bought. It will never be bought.”

Gandhi will be visiting the poll-bound Gujarat on Monday too. He is scheduled to address a public gathering amidst speculations of the Election Commission’s announcement of dates for assembly elections in the state.

Narendra Patel Alleges Bribe for joining BJP

Patidar leader Narendra Patel had alleged that he was offered a whopping amount of Rs 1 crore to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Patel said that he had already received Rs. 10 lakh as token money.

“Varun Patel took me to a meeting where it was discussed that I will be given Rs 1 crore. In the meeting, they told me to keep Rs. 10 lakh and the rest money will be given to me later.” ANI quoted Patel as saying.

He added, “I am here for the society and want to do something good for the society. No one can buy me from such money. I am a Patidar. I came here for the welfare of Patidars not to do politics.”

Rahul Gandhi to address meeting in Ahmedabad

Gandhi will be addressing a rally called by Alpesh Thakore, the President of OBC , SC, ST Ekta Manch in Ahmedabad. Thakore had met Rahul Gandhi on Friday at the latter’s resident soon after which he had announced that he would be joining the Congress. He has a strong appeal among backward classes, having worked actively on drug de-addiction in the state.

“It is time to throw out the BJP in Gujarat. Unemployment is a huge problem with lakhs of youngsters without jobs, more than 74,000 farmers are neck deep in debt, illicit liquor flows freely in the state despite prohibition and education and health sectors are in a total mess,” ANI quoted Thakore as saying.
