Gujarat SIR: More than 73 lakh names have been removed from the voters’ list after the Election Commission completed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Gujarat, the draft electoral rolls released Friday by the apex poll panel has revealed. As per the revised voters’ list, Gujarat has a total of 4.34 crore voters post-SIR, against the earlier 5.08 crore.
How many voters deleted in Gujarat SIR?
Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Hareet Shukla said a total of 73.73 lakh voters have been removed from the voters’ list after the SIR exercise in the state to clean up the electoral rolls.
“Before the publication of the draft electoral rolls, a total of 5,08,43,436 voters were registered in the state. After the publication of these rolls, the number of voters is now 4,34,70,109. During the SIR campaign, the names of a total of 73,73,327 voters have been removed from the draft electoral roll,” Shukla said.
Which names were removed from voters’ list?
An official release from the CEO office said the following categories of voters were deleted from the voters’ list;

Absent voters – 9,69,662
Voters who permanently migrated -40,25,553
Voters registered in two places – 3,81,470
Others – 1,89,364
Gujarat SIR commence on November 4 and concluded on December 14, following which the Election Commission published the draft electoral rolls on Friday.
After the publication of draft rolls, objections and claims regarding them can be submitted to authorities till January 18, the Commission said.
