Rohtak, May 2: Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been behind the bars for almost six months now and it is his mother, Naseeb Kaur who now handles and manages the working of Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters. She travels all the way from Gursar Modia village in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar district at least once a week to meet the devotees.
Ram Rahim’s mother is in her 70s and seen amidst the followers mostly on Sundays, a report has claimed. Notably, dera followers gather in huge numbers at Sirsa for ‘Naam Charcha’. After the meeting, Naseeb heads back to her village. She also makes frequent visit to Sunaria jail in Rohtak where Gurmeet Ram Rahim is jailed.
The dera chief was convicted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court last year. He is serving 20-year jail sentence awarded to him for raping two of his devotees inside the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters.
After Ram Rahim’s conviction, Naseeb had announced that the next heir in line would be her grandson Jasmeet Insan.
Meanwhile, the functions of dera are being looked after by Naseeb after the 45-member core committee of the institution became largely defunct. Its chairperson Vipasana Insan and Spokesman Dr Aditya Insan went underground after being identified one among the key people behind the violence in Panchkula following Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s conviction in rape case.
Meanwhile, the vice-chairperson of the dera management committee, also went underground after arrest warrant was issued against him.
A media report claims that the commercial activities within the Sirsa headquarters have remained sealed since August last year. On the other hand, six educational institutions are carrying out the operations but under the tight vigil of the district administration and Haryana Education Department. The Shah Satnam hospital has also started functioning.
