Gurugram (Haryana): A 22-year-old student of a private university allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl in the basement of a housing society in Gurugram on Wednesday evening. The accused, identified as Piyush, was booked under sections of the POCSO Act after the girl’s mother filed a police complaint against him.
The incident was reported on Wednesday afternoon when the girl was out to play in the basement of the building. The girl’s mother said that the accused took her to a corner and raped her. “On her return home, she shared the ordeal with us,” the girl’s mother said in the complaint.
Child welfare committee chief Shakuntala Dhull told The Times of India that the two knew each other for last few months and had even connected on Instagram. Piyush has not been arrested yet. According to the police, he fled soon after he came to know of the complaint. “The medical report of the girl has confirmed rape and a case has been registered,” ACP Shakuntala Yadav said.
The residents of the society said that tried to discourage the girl’s family from filing a complaint. “We have asked the parents of the accused to produce him before police or else police will do as appropriate,” Yadav said. The girl’s mother said that filing a complaint was necessary as the accused was a threat to other children in the society.
