New Delhi: The wife of an additional district and sessions court judge Krishan Kant who was shot at by his official gunman has died in hospital while their 18-year-old son is said to be ‘brain dead’. The duo were taken to a private hospital in Gurugram, soon after the gunman Mahipal Singh shot them  in Sector 49.

“Judge’s wife Ritu (38) died overnight due to excessive bleeding at the Medanta-The Medicity hospital and his 18-year-old son Dhruv was “brain dead”, a spokesperson for the hospital told news agency IANS. He added,”Dhruv, who was shot in the head, “is on critical life support and is brain dead.”

Earlier in the day, a police officer, Sub-Inspector Jitender Singh, had said that the teenager also succumbed to his injuries.

According to a report,  a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, the accused was taken into custody while he was trying to flee to Faridabad. On Sunday, he was sacked from the Haryana Police. During interrogation, he told the police that he felt he was “possessed” when he shot the two.

“During interrogation, the accused said that he was mentally disturbed and irritated as he was asked to take them to the market and he did not like doing household chores,” Gurugram Police Commissioner KK Rao was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
