Gwalior, Jul 28: A Gwalior local court on Thursday awarded death sentence to a man for raping and murdering a six-year-old girl last month. This is third such case in Madhya Pradesh where a minor’s rapist has been given capital punishment. According to a report, the verdict was delivered only 36 days after the incident was reported. 25-year-old Jitendra Kushwaha, an ice cream vendor from Kampu area in the district, was convicted under the new rules bought into effect by the state government last month. The minor was abducted by Kushwaha on intervening night of June 20-21 from a wedding. Her body was found dumped on a hillock. Her face was crushed with a stone. Acting swiftly in connection with the matter, the Gwalior police probed the CCTV footage in which Kushwaha was seen luring the victim. He was arrested Kushwaha on June 22. A chargesheet was filed against him on July 2.



In another case, a local court in Katni sentenced a man to death on Friday for raping a minor, following a trial that lasted just five days.

A special court of Additional Sessions Judge Madhuri Raj Lal convicted Rajkumar Kol (34), an autorickshaw driver, after finding him guilty under section 376 (A)(B), introduced under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance 2018, as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Kol raped the five-year-old girl on July 4 while taking her to school. He was arrested on July 7. Police filed the charge sheet on July 12 and the hearing in the case started on July 23.
