New Delhi: Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and urged the Sikh community to stand by it. Claiming that they were finally getting justice for 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Badal appealed to the Sikhs to stay strong and support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government.

Lashing out at the Congress, she further stated that the Gandhi family has hardly done anything for Punjab. Blaming Jawaharlal Nehru for dividing Punjab, Badal said that had the veteran leader wanted, the border could easily have been two kilometres more. “Post-Nehru breaking the state, Indira Gandhi came and attacked the Golden Temple, to suppress the Sikhs and to demoralise them,” she said.

“After Indira Gandhi came her son Rajiv Gandhi who then for his political reasons massacred millions of Sikhs all over and now Rahul Gandhi speaks the language of Pakistan,” said Badal.

Stating that the Congress party will also derail the Kartarpur Sahib corridor issue, Badal asked the people to extend support to the NDA government. Badal also attacked Navjot Sidhu and called him an agent of Pakistan. She further spoke on Sidhu claiming that his cordiality with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan worked. Questioning Sidhu over the Kartarpur corridor issue, Badal said that it was the Government of India that actually helped speed up the process so that devotees could visit the place.

She said, “You got it done from there but who got it done from our govt, who passed it in the Cabinet? He can say what he wants, he is a Pakistan agent, he obviously has to speak about Pakistan.”

Both India and Pakistan officials will meet on the Indian side of the Attari-Wagah border on Thursday to decide on the modalities of the Kartarpur corridor. This will be the first meeting between the officials of the two countries to decide on the details such as alignment of the corridor.
