New Delhi, April 4: Hours after she had been allegedly raped by eight men, a 17-year-old girl in Haryana’s Mewat committed suicide. The girl hanged herself with her dupatta from a hook in the bathroom when she was alone at home. Her parents had gone to another village to meet their relatives but when they returned home in the afternoon they found that the girl had locked herself in the bathroom.

They informed the police who broke the doors and recovered the body. ““She had been sexually assaulted on Sunday night, and told us about it on Monday morning. I was concerned about her respect and that of our family, and initially had no intention of approaching police,” Indian Express quoted victim’s father as saying.

Earlier on Monday, the girl was found lying unconscious after she was gang-raped in a secluded area in Nuh district after being abducted from her house. The teenager was alone in the house when the accused came on two motorcycles and a car and abducted her, according to a complaint filed by the girl’s father with the police.

Her father also informed the police that the 17-year-old had identified the accused, who had stalked her in the past as well. Meanwhile,  a case of abduction, gang-rape and abetment to suicide has been registered against the accused and police are reportedly conducting raids to nab them who are still at large.
