New Delhi: Several reports claiming that the Indian Railways has started allowing reservation after April 14 have surfaced on Thursday as India is fighting with the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus under lockdown.

April 14 is the date when this 21-day lockdown is scheduled to end. But there are speculations without any official confirmation that the lockdown may get extended.

While the finding that rail tickets can be booked for the period after April 14 triggered more speculations that the lockdown will ultimately end on April 14, the railways has issued a statement clarifying that ticket booking for the period following April 14 was never shut.

“Booking of reserved train tickets never stopped except for the lockdown period that is March 24 to April 14. Since advance reservation period for taking reserved ticket is 120 days, ticket bookings for 15th April and beyond were made open much prior to the lockdown period,” the railways said.

There has been no new announcement in this regard.
